It's official...

IFC announces that they have picked up all North American rights to "In Search of a Midnight Kiss." The announcement comes just in time for today's screening at the AFI Film Festival here in LA. I didn't go to the screening today but I plan to attend the screening next Saturday. I'm saving myself for the red carpet event.

Midnight Kiss in Edinburgh, Sarajevo and London

"In Search of a Midnight Kiss" continues to do well at festivals, this time overseas. Audiences at the Edinburgh Film Festival loved it and critics are saying very nice things: witness The Guardian, The Scotsman, Neil Young's Film Lounge, FestMag and Eye for Film.

The film screens at the Sarajevo film festival next and then in Greece and London. I'll probably run up to San Francisco to catch it at the Mill Valley Film Festival. I've yet to see it with a festival audience. It'll also give me a chance to push my editing creds to other filmmakers.

More "Midnight Kiss" Raves

This little movie is forcing me out of my blogging retirement. I'm so proud of this film and Alex and Seth and Scoot and Brian and Sara and Robert. They did a helluva job and I'm so glad to have been a part of it. There's a new mention/review of it in IndieWire. Looks like it's making it's mark.

These days I'm a bonafide cynic when it comes to the prospect of selling such a small movie. But it would be simple poetic justice if this film did get picked up for a limited theatrical simply because the film is based on a lot of the tragic moments in Alex's own life and experience when he came out to LA.

Can't wait to see what other people think of the film.

"Midnight Kiss" Review

I haven't written anything on this blog for a while mainly because I haven't felt that I had much to say out loud. But today I want to let people know about one of the first reviews of "In Search of a Midnight Kiss" -- a film that I edited last year. It's directed by good friend Alex Holdridge and produced by Seth Caplan and Anne Walker and it premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Friday. I wasn't there myself but I heard that the screenings went exceedingly well.

Jonathan Hickman's review of the film on Entertainment Insiders is the first review that I've seen. Check it out.

Here's the trailer for the film if you haven't seen that yet.

The magic of a start date...

I had breakfast with David Lowery this morning at the Farmer's Market. Among other things, we agreed that there is some special kind of magic that comes with setting a start date to a project and sticking to that date whatever comes. He's working on a project out here that sounds very exciting. It's inspiring to hear about other people's projects and inspirations. It fuels my own creative energy.

For you'se guys who don't read indieWire (Mom), here's a great article about good friends Jay and Mark Duplass, creators of The Puffy Chair.

'Young American Bodies'

I thought I'd break my silence on this blog by telling you about Joe Swanberg's new online dramatic series over at nervevideo.com. It's called Young American Bodies and it's being posted in weekly 5 minute episodes. The first episode is here. Warning: Explicit Sexual Content!

Joe describes the episode thus:

Ben's Night Out
Dia is sick of Ben always following Maggie around, so she invites him out to a club with her friends. Maggie, tired of listening to Casey and her boyfriend, Noah, fighting, decides to call Ben and see what he's up to. Will Ben hook up with one of Dia's friends, or will he answer Maggie's call?
