I am a Caveman

I was driving out to my parents house in Fredricksburg on Friday when I realized that Homo Erectus (aka The Adan Rifkin Caveman Comedy Project Film Movie Project) was shooting out in the hill country. Turns out they were shooting at Pedernales State Park which is on the way to Fredricksburg. So I thought I'd stop in and say hi and wish them luck. As I made my way down to the falls that are the main attraction at Pedernales, I saw a gangly group of cavemen gathered round Carolyn Pfeifer. Naturally, one of them was a caveman by the name of Ron Jeremy.

I was standing there talking with Carolyn for all of 30 seconds before Adam pointed at me very authoritatively and said, "You need to be in the film! You are a caveman!" I put up a short-lived resistence but inevitably succumbed to such a prehistoric tone of voice. So I headed back up to the trailers in the parking area where I was immediately given a fur pelt and a pair of "uggs" (??? -- fur boots basically). As I was waiting to go back down to the set one of the trailer doors flew open. Standing in the doorway was David Carradine pointing at me. He said, "You look like a woman!" I had to agree. I introduced myself and then told him that only a few days earlier I had seen The Serpents Egg by Ingmar Bergman. He immediately launched into a story about how crazy Bergman was. Apparently Bergman was very upset with Carradine throughout the shoot because Carradine was partying too much at night -- Bergman wanted him to be more depressed in the film. He also told me that Bergman had no qualms about killing animals in his movies... something I'd noticed in The Passion of Anna.

So down on set I was to join a gang of 5 other caveman extras who were led by Carradine, playing the Caveman-In-Charge (CIC). The scene called for us to chase Adam Rifkin who was dressed as a wooly mamoth. Our motivation was that we were hungry cavemen. Easy enough. We chased that man about 12 times and all throughout I did my best to standout as the most nuanced caveman performer. I really really gave it my best, I felt prehistoric, I searched into my inner reptilian mind. I walked with a hunch and carried my spear as any barbarian in his right mind would, high above the head with a back and forth motion intended to inspire great fear in the enemy, or the food, or what have you. I made the most of my role and hopefully you will see me on the big screen standing right behind Mr. Carradine.
