Spirit Award Pics
Yesterday was truly amazing. Here's the story in pictures.

We arrived at the main entrance of the site at around 11:30am. That's where we waited for Brant to arrive, as well as Alanna, our publicist. The beach was right there in front of us.

We both had on our hip new duds. Throngs of photographers and press agents were everywhere.

Finally we met up with Alanna and Brant, our agent. We couldn't have asked for nicer handlers. And boy was it nice being handled. Seriously, Allana would say, okay, stand here, and we'd stand there and get interviewed by either IFC TV, AP TV, or get our picture taken. It was so easy... all we had to do was have fun and try to make the interviews funny. The interviews are floating out there in cyberspace, who knows where.

This is the blue carpet (I guess they couldn't afford a red carpet?) that you walk down where everyone calls out your name and tries to get you to look into their camera while they snap away. Nobody was really calling our name, though. Alanna handed out small slips of paper with our names on it and the award we were up for so people would know who we were.

On our way in we met Carson Kressley, the host of the Bravo red (blue) carpet show.

Queer Eye on the right. Straight Guy on the left.

Here we are getting interviewed by someone. She introduced herself and told us who she wrote for, but I remember none of this.

Of course, we once again ran into our friends at IndieWire -- Eugene and Brian.

Brant having a good time.

Finally we arrive inside the main tent. Lights! Glamour! Food! Wine! Sam Jackson! Bad Muthuh-F&%ker!

Clap clap clap for the winners. Our award was positioned right in the middle of the program. We probably had about 6 awards to go at this point before getting to the Someone to Watch award. (If you look real close you can see Jon Heder, Napoleon Dynamite himself, on the TV behind Bryan.)

Time for a break from the awards, so we go outside and catch some sun.

The couple sitting next to us at our table take a break too. This is Hill Harper -- he stars on the TV show CSI: NY.

Back in the tent now and it's time! Quentin Tarantino and Salma Hayek prepare to annouce who will win the Someone to Watch award! Holy crap!

The cameraman comes over and finds Bryan.

Okay, keep cool! Quentin brings Marc Forster to the stage to give out the award. He won this award for a film called Everything Put Together a few years ago. He just directed Finding Neverland... so needless to say he is the poster child for this award, showing how one can go from the small time to the Peter Pan time.

Mike Forster about to say who will be $20,000 richer!

The cameraman has Bryan in his sights.

There he is on live television, broadcast out to 2 million viewers.

The audience claps as each of the nominees are announced. Clap clap, yadda yadda... but here it comes!

This is me waiting for it. It's coming in the next 30 seconds. Oh my god!

AND THE WINNER IS....

...Jem Cohen. Damn.

Oh well. That was fun. A mixture of relief and disapointment pours over us. We weren't the only losers at our table. Left to right, the losers are: Jehane Noujaim, maker of the incredible documentary Control Room which was up for best doc; Bryan, Jake, and Danielle Renfrew, producer of November and Groove and who was up for the Bravo/American Express Producers Award. We found out very soon after losing that the loser's circle is big, and its members are extremely talented. So we're in good company.

So then we went to the after-party and this is really all you need to see from that party. The image of Mario van Peebles dancing with his father, the legendary Melvin van Peebles, captures the essence of that party. And these guys lost tonight too! Losers, let's dance!
It was a great experience, but now I'm completely partied out. We met a lot of actors, some of whom we're going to try to cast in our next film The Cassidy Kids. We really worked the crowd, pressed the flesh, and drank the wine. Now I'm in recovery.
